Hi everyone.
I have some interesting pieces that I wanted opinion on please. I lived in Cecil Road, Wealdstone as a child, just down the road from the glass factory and I was a pupil at Whitefriars Middle School, whose playing fields were next door to the glassworks. I lived there from 1968-85 and remember when the factory closed in 1980.
Whilst there, my Dad, Pete, was good friends with one of the blokes who blew glass there, but I do not know his name.
Dad was taken early in 1994 and Mum now has failing memory so I don't know what the provenance of these gifts were. This bloke made loads of stuff for my parents, including a bespoke handled pint glass with my dads nickname "SPUD" overlaid on the outside and a big 2 pint pot in amber glass. There were candlestick holders made in blue glass with a bark like exterior, a pair of blue swans, a duck, an owl a big red glass triangular fruit bowl just to name but a few. Some I am aware was in general production but other pieces seem to be "one offs" or a bespoke piece made as a gift!
We had shed loads of Whitefriars glass and now Mum is moving to a new home, I have the pleasure of finding all this glassware and wrapping it up for the move.
I have been given two impressive pieces of glassware,
A full sized Yard of Ale in red glass
A Glass sword with a red glass spiral hilt and a clear /red tipped blade which has a heart shaped profile. I will post photos when I can drag them across from my iCloud gallery.
Cheers anyway.
Rick
