Hello everyone.
Ok its update time……..
I attended Fieldings and had a really good look at everything that may have been of interest.
Moulds
The moulds, as has been widely mentioned are not in the best of condition. The glacier range examples are all generally poor in condition and not really workable. They would require a great deal of work to get them to a functioning mould, capable of producing a finished item.
The sunspot was extremely rusty but with a good clean would come up very nice. What did stand out was how crude it actually was and would be very easily copied should anyone actually wish to make one. Its iconic and was truly fantastic to hold as a fan of them myself.
Of all the moulds there, the Toby was definitely the best. It really looked the part and was in the best condition of them all. With a good clean it would look fantastic on display.
Paperwork
The paperwork was a really interesting bundle. It was pretty clear from viewing that these pieces were a complete mish mash of documents. Although they were excellent to look at and very interesting they did not show anything that we didn’t already know. They were not all original drawings either. The very vast majority were just traced copies of original drawings. Extremely interesting to see but not as incredible as first thought.
One lot really stood out though. LOT 772 would make a fantastic addition to a museum and would provide such a great resource for everyone to see and share for years to come.
Paperweight Canes
These were the biggest surprise to me. I have a few cane sections that I own, however these are in a different league. They are superb pieces and would be very easily useable in vases, weights etc today. They are a concern to be honest.
I understand from my earlier contact with the Paperweight collectors that they intend to try and win some of these so fingers crossed.
All in all it was a fantastically useful viewing and has made me certainly more clarified ☺ Please let me know if there is anything in particular you want to know about and I will do my best to help. All opinions and thoughts are gratefully received ☺
Keep publicising guys. You are doing such a fantastic job!!!
